How do I describe this? Eh...it's a video where I help you understand some vocabulary.

00:26 – It's up my street

Definition: It’s something I like or find interesting.

Example: That movie about dinosaurs is right up my street.


01:20 – theme park (UK), amusement park (USA)

Definition: A large outdoor place with rides, games, and shows for fun.

Example: We went to a theme park last weekend and rode all the roller coasters.


01:30 – wipe from the face of the planet/earth

Definition: To destroy something completely.

Example: The dinosaurs were wiped from the face of the earth millions of years ago.


02:20 – night vision goggles

Definition: Special glasses that help you see in the dark.

Example: Soldiers use night vision goggles during night missions.


03:26 – No chance

Definition: It’s impossible.

Example: Can I outrun a dinosaur? No chance!


03:35 – chirping

Definition: A short, high sound made by small animals like birds or insects.

Example: I woke up to birds chirping outside my window.


04:07 – managed to (do something)

Definition: Succeeded in doing something difficult.

Example: She managed to finish the race even though she was very tired.


04:50 – I guess

Definition: I think, but I’m not sure.

Example: I guess it might rain later.


05:19 – slap bang in the middle

Definition: Exactly in the centre.

Example: His house is slap bang in the middle of the city.


05:41 – caught up

Definition: Involved in something, often without meaning to be.

Example: He got caught up in the excitement of the moment.


07:39 – butt

Definition: (Informal) The part of your body you sit on.

Example: He fell and landed on his butt.


09:14 – don't take my word on this

Definition: I might be wrong, so check for yourself.

Example: I think the museum is open today, but don’t take my word on it.


10:10 – be crazy into something

Definition: Really like something a lot.

Example: She’s crazy into dinosaurs and knows all their names.


11:21 – be a goner

Definition: Be in big danger or likely to die.

Example: If that T-Rex sees you, you’re a goner.


11:34 – be toast

Definition: Be in serious trouble.

Example: If we don’t leave now, we’re toast!


11:53 – squelch

Definition: A wet, sucking sound made when walking in mud.

Example: His boots squelched as he walked through the swamp.


13:30 – to factor in

Definition: To include something in your plan or thinking.

Example: We need to factor in the cost of transport when planning the trip.


14:23 – happen to have

Definition: Have something by chance.

Example: Do you happen to have a pen I can borrow?


14:55 – a stand-in

Definition: A person who takes someone else’s place temporarily.

Example: The actor was sick, so they used a stand-in for the scene.


16:10 – It doesn't bear thinking about

Definition: It’s too horrible to imagine.

Example: Losing my passport while abroad doesn’t bear thinking about.


17:23 – for goodness sake

Definition: Used to show you are annoyed or surprised.

Example: Oh, for goodness sake, just answer the question!


18:24 – blown off

Definition: Forced away by wind or an explosion.

Example: His hat was blown off in the storm.


19:33 – I figured as much

Definition: I thought so / I expected that.

Example: You’re late again? I figured as much.


20:05 – make it back

Definition: Return safely to a place.

Example: I hope they make it back before dark.


20:13 – trope

Definition: A common idea or pattern in stories.

Example: The “hero saves the day” is a classic trope in action films.


23:03 – fly off

Definition: To leave a place quickly by flying.

Example: The bird flew off when it heard the noise.


24:47 – smash

Definition: Break something into pieces.

Example: He smashed the window with a rock.


26:34 – yikes

Definition: Something you say when you are surprised or scared.

Example: Yikes! That’s a big spider!


27:53 – moot point

Definition: A subject people argue about but that doesn’t really matter now.

Example: We missed the bus, so whether we were late or not is a moot point.


26:35 – 165-million-year run

Definition: A long period when something existed or continued.

Example: Dinosaurs had a 165-million-year run before going extinct.


29:16 – roam

Definition: Move around freely over a large area.

Example: Lions roam across the plains of Africa.


30:14 – poop (USA), poo (UK)

Definition: The solid waste that comes out of your body when you go to the toilet.

Example: He said he couldn't come because his dog had just done a poop on the carpet.


32:32 – upbeat

Definition: Happy and full of energy.

Example: She sounded upbeat after getting the job.
